There are over 77 million native speakers of Korean in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North) and the Republic of Korea (South).
Outside of these countries, Korean is spoken by large numbers in the major urban centres of China, Japan, Russia, and the USA.
Interesting fact: Although it differs slightly in spelling, alphabet, and vocabulary between the North and South, Korean is the official language of both countries. Despite the geographical and socio-political dialect differences, Korean is relatively homogeneous, being mutually understandable among speakers from different areas
